Education Providers

Australia is renowned for its high-quality education. Hundreds of educational institutions across the country offer thousands of courses and programs. What should you choose when planning to study in Australia? What's the difference between them? Does the prestige of a university or college impact future career prospects? This article will help you find answers to these questions.

Types of Educational Institutions in Australia

In Australia, higher education is offered by universities, TAFE, and private colleges. Let's explore them in detail:

Universities offer the most prestigious and high-quality education. There are 42 universities in Australia (40 Australian, 1 international, and 3 private). Seven of them are in the top 100 QS ranking of the best universities in the world. Studying there, you will enjoy excellent campus facilities and equipment, highly qualified faculty, and a true student life atmosphere on campus. However, university education is the most expensive, ranging from approximately AUD 28,000 to 45,000 per year.

TAFE (Technical and Further Education) primarily provides practical and job-oriented professional training. TAFE also has large campuses with all the necessary amenities for comfortable learning, including computer labs, libraries, cafeterias, sports facilities, etc. They usually offer programs at levels 1-6, but in some TAFE institutions, you can also obtain a bachelor's or master's degree. The cost of education at TAFE is around AUD 7,000 to 20,000 per year.

Private colleges are the most affordable educational institutions, which is crucial for international students. Private college campuses are smaller but have all the necessary equipment. Private colleges offer qualifications at levels 1-7. The average price range in such colleges is AUD 9,000–15,000 per year.

There are also three public colleges in Australia. They specialize in areas such as dramatic arts (NIDA), aviation (Aviation Australia), and meteorology (Bureau of Meteorology). Education there is quite expensive, ranging from AUD 31,560 to 85,000 per year.

   Visa

This is the most crucial aspect. Most employers prefer candidates who already have the right to work, as they don't want to deal with visa issues.

   Local Experience and Recommendations

Australian employers want to be confident that the candidate can work in local conditions because every industry in Australia has its peculiarities. Therefore, we strongly recommend our students to look for part-time jobs or even volunteer work during their studies. It not only helps financially and mentally but also increases the chances of finding a permanent job in the future.

   Professional Skills

Employers want individuals with specific skills. Therefore, it's important to know how to create a good resume and present your skills during an interview.

   International Work Experience

Of course, the knowledge and experience gained in your home country will always stay with you and can play a positive role in finding a new job. Not all the knowledge might be relevant or useful, but if you have experience working in international companies, it can work in your favor.

   Your Personal Qualities

Australian employers pay a lot of attention to a candidate's personal and communication skills. Even if you are an excellent specialist, you might fail an interview just because you are not sociable or friendly enough or because you don't fit the team according to the employer's opinion. Therefore, it's essential to know how to present yourself and stay positive. Most likely, you will work in a team, and your ability to communicate with others will be taken into account

   The Prestige of Education

As you can see, this is the last thing Australian employers pay attention to. Perhaps, if they have several equally qualified candidates, they might give preference to the one with a more prestigious diploma. The prestige of education plays a significant role in academic, scientific, medical, and engineering fields. However, you won't find these programs in budget private colleges because studying these specialties requires modern equipment and resources that private colleges cannot provide. So, if you want to study one of these specialties, you will find them only in universities or TAFE, which meet all industry requirements.

Benefits of Studying in Australia

Disclaimer: There is no official immigration pathway through education. However, a well-planned education strategy can lead to obtaining permanent residency (PR) and Australian citizenship.

   Benefits of Studying in Australia:

Right to Work and Onshore Job Search: Finding an employer willing to sponsor a worker and support their work visa can be challenging due to the time and documentation involved. Employers prefer candidates already in Australia with a work or student visa who can start work soon. After completing studies and obtaining a graduate visa, candidates increase their chances of finding employment and acquiring Permanent Residency status.

Recognized Qualifications: Australia is renowned for its high-quality higher education. Australian universities consistently rank high globally, and degrees in humanities, sciences, medicine, and technology are recognized and valued worldwide. Whether you decide to stay in Australia or move to another country, an Australian education can be a valuable investment in your future career growth.

Time and Experience: During your studies, you can explore the country and determine which city or region suits you best. You can also establish valuable local contacts for future employment. Working part-time on a student visa and having unrestricted work hours during holidays provide valuable local experience.

   Cost of Education in Australia

The cost of educational programs varies based on the field of study and the institution. For details about types of educational institutions in Australia, please refer to our article. Generally, the cost of programs in an Australian university ranges from AU$12,000 to AU$45,000 per year.

Additionally, international students need a minimum of AU$24,505 to cover living expenses. Besides, financial proof is required for partners and children.

Who Would Benefit from Australian Education

High School Graduates: Those seeking internationally recognized higher education should consider Australian universities, which rank among the top 100 in the world.

Professionals with Non-Demanded Qualifications: Specialists in fields with lower demand might struggle to find a sponsoring employer. In such cases, a graduate visa can be an excellent solution. Moreover, you can acquire new skills and knowledge relevant to the modern job market, increasing your chances of employment.

Individuals Without Sponsoring Employers: Even if you have a qualification from the in-demand list, immigrants might face challenges due to inadequate English proficiency or lack of local experience/education recognition. In such cases, pursuing a local degree for two years can enhance English skills and accumulate local experience, improving job prospects.

Professionals with Qualifications but Limited English Proficiency: Without English proficiency, highly skilled professionals struggle to demonstrate their expertise and impress employers. Language courses can improve English to the necessary level, allowing participation in interviews and evaluating the job market.

Those Seeking Additional Points for Immigration: Education obtained in Australia, including study in regional areas, earns additional points when applying for residency. Points are also granted for English proficiency at the Proficient level or higher. Therefore, language courses and professional education in Australia add points, increasing the chances of obtaining residency.

In recent years, obtaining an Australian education has become a crucial step toward immigration. Proficiency in English is typically required, regardless of the chosen immigration method. The time and money invested in self-development will pay off with new career opportunities.

Student Visa

If you intend to study in Australia for more than three months, you need to obtain a student visa (subclass 500). In this article, we aim to answer the most common questions about this visa, its conditions, and the application process.

   Student Visa (Subclass 500)

This visa is designed for individuals who wish to study language courses or pursue professional or higher education programs in Australia. It is also suitable for children aged 6 and above who plan to attend Australian schools as international students. The student visa is granted for a period of study up to 5 years. With this visa, you can:

Study full-time (a minimum of 20 hours per week) in the program specified in your visa.

Work part-time (up to 40 hours per fortnight) during your studies and full-time during vacations and holidays.

Bring your family with you. Family members include your partner and children. You can include them in your student visa application, or they can apply for their own visa based on your student visa. However, you need to demonstrate sufficient funds to support all family members living and studying in Australia.

Complex (Package) Programs and Student Visa

A student visa can also be granted for studying complex (package) programs. A complex program consists of two or more consecutive courses and the last course is the main course. For example, an English language course + a master's degree (for those who want to improve their English and take the IELTS for admission to a master's program) or a foundation course + a bachelor's degree (for high school graduates). To obtain a student visa for two courses, you need to have a Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE) for each course and sufficient funds to pay for the entire tuition.

How Can I Apply for a Student Visa in Australia?

You can apply online through the Department of Home Affairs website. To do this, create an ImmiAccount, fill out the application, upload all necessary documents, and pay the application fee (AUD 710) using a credit or debit card.

Within 14 days of submitting your online application, you need to provide biometric data at the nearest Australian visa application centre.

Then, you just need to wait for the decision on your application. Check your email regularly, as officers may request additional documents. Provide them as soon as possible within the specified deadline.

Once your visa is granted, it will be issued online as a PDF document. We recommend printing it out and carrying it with you during your trip to Australia.

Documents Required for Student Visa Application

In your online application, you need to provide:

Identification documents.

Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE) from your educational institution.

Proof of your English language proficiency, such as an IELTS certificate or another internationally recognized test.

Health insurance - Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) from an approved Australian health insurance provider. If you are travelling to Australia with your family, all family members must be insured for the entire duration of their stay in Australia.

Proof of funds (depends on your country of origin and educational institution) - you need to demonstrate that you have enough money in your bank accounts to cover your course fees, living expenses, and other costs in Australia.

Evidence that you are a genuine student. This means that you intend to study in Australia only for educational purposes and plan to return to your home country after completing your course. You need to prove that you have strong ties to your home country, such as employment, property, family members left at home, etc.

Evidence of your good character.

Results of a medical examination.

In addition to the main list, you may need to provide additional documents proving your intention to study specifically in Australia and not for immigration purposes.

Additional Requirements for Students Under 18

For students under 18 years of age, additional documents are required:

Parental consent - a special form in which parents give their child permission to apply for a visa.

Social conditions - evidence that the student has suitable accommodation. Usually, your educational institution is responsible for providing the student with proper homestay arrangements.

However, accommodation organization is not necessary if the student is travelling to Australia with a parent or relative who can obtain a guardian visa. This visa allows accompanying students under 18 years of age to support and provide accommodation for them. The guardian cannot work but can stay with the student for the duration of their course and attend English language courses.

The process of applying for a student visa in Australia can be complex, each case is individual and full of nuances. We can help you navigate the entire process from enrolling in the course to submitting visa documents and finding answers to any questions you may have.
